Named in 1819 by Christoph Friedrich Jasche from the Greek rhodos or “rose”, referring to its colour.
Galena: PbS
Galena is the primary ore mineral of lead. Worked for its lead content as early as 3000 BC, it is found in ore veins with sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, tennantite-tetrahedrite, etc. and in skarns, as well as in sedimentary rocks where it may replace carbonate beds or be deposited in pore spaces.

SiO2 · nH2O.A colourless variety of Opal. Hyalite is opal, an amorphous silica glass containing about 3-8% water. Hyalite occurs as globular and botryoidal masses and irregular crusts. Found in volcanic and pegmatite environments where the silica deposits from the gas phase. It often shows a strong green fluorescence in UV light.

Check out this outstanding Top Boulder Opal Rough Parcel. An extra quality parcel of beautiful rough Boulder Opal. These are the best specimens out of several lots bought in person directly from the dude that mined it! Unusual and vibrant aqua colouring is a feature of this lot, along with blue, green sparkles and other flashes of colour. Some pieces show the veining which is an attractive feature also. Each piece has been cut to its best potential ready for jewellery or perfect as a mineral specimen in your Aussie collection. I feel like this one is a parcel I’ll regret selling, but that’s the way it goes in the rock trade. I love opal in the rough and this is a special little parcel on offer. BLACK JADE NEPHRITE SLAB THIN
Good Black Jade Nephrite Slab Thin. Polishes to a very high luster, which is perfect for creating stunning quality Black Jade mirror finish jewellery and pendants. It was an exercise to see how thin a saw could cut the Jade. 2mm down to next to nothing in thickness 0.8mm. This material will polish to a stunning black luster. Nephrite Jade is the toughest of all naturally occurring materials. Nephrite Jade has been used from ancient times as jewellery, tools and weapons. This particular Slab is Top grade and the blackest of black jade – basically the best you can get. I believe it was mined in the 1970’s from Cowell.

BOULDER OPAL SLAB 2
A rare rough Queensland Boulder Opal Slab 2. You almost never get unworked pieces like this for sale. Really this is a gem in the rough. Features ethereal streaks of colour on a white background, wrapped in its sandstone host rock. I’ve done my best but it does look so much better in person. Polished up of course it will look absolutely stunning. A great project for the lapidary or opal enthusiast or jeweller or it could be for a collection. A super piece!
