AUSSIE JADE OFF CUTS 2
A parcel over half a kg of Aussie Jade Off Cuts in green to black. They sound amazing mate – you know the ting sound when they jingle about in the bag. Seriously this is some of the best carving rough offered. I’m told by the owner, left overs and off cuts too good to throw away, from an old Maori carver who worked at the Cowell mine years ago. Great for the lapidarist or carver after rare Australian Nephrite Jade. Most of these pieces have at least one straight edge and all are ready to start working your magic on. I have taken photos of the jade both dry and wet to give an idea of colour. It looks better in person than the pics show. All the Jade is from Cowell in South Australia. If you are after a larger rock see our Rock n Slabs section.

DENDRITIC AGATE MERLINITE ROUGH
Dendritic Agate Merlinite Rough Rock, also called common Opal and Dendritic Opal. This solid rock is ready for lapidary work or carving. The beautiful patterns in the stone would look great in jewellery.  A very nice Australian rock. This Specimen has been cut on one side To expose the interior Dendritic formations. A stunning stone showing light and dark. A great display specimen or into a slab saw for the lapidary worker to make Jewellery from.

Opal has been a popular gem for many centuries and has a very interesting structure. The name opal comes from the Sanskrit name for precious stone upala. Opal structure is not crystalline and considered a mineraloid. The chemistry of Opal is primarily SiO2 and varying amounts of water. The amount of water varies from 5 -10% and greater. This water can help geologists determine the temperature of the host rock at the time the opal formed.

MOOKAITE ROUGH ROCK SPECIMEN
An outstanding MOOKAITE ROUGH ROCK SPECIMEN with striking two tone mauve and white colouring with a splash of ochre yellow. A solid rock with outstanding contrast. My photos barely do it justice, it is rare to get a rock with these two colours and such sharp banding. This Mookaite is perfect for lapidary work or carving, or simply to keep in its current form as a beautiful and noteworthy Australian stone. There are two cut faces at 90 degrees on the block.
This stunning stone is found in the Kennedy Ranges near Gascoyne Junction. About 100 miles inland from the coastal town of Carnarvon in Western Australia. About 600 miles north of the capital Perth. The name Mookaite is from Mooka Creek. The Aboriginal word mooka means running waters, in reference to the many fresh water springs that feed Mooka Creek.

BLACK JADE NEPHRITE SLAB THIN
Good Black Jade Nephrite Slab Thin. Polishes to a very high luster, which is perfect for creating stunning quality Black Jade mirror finish jewellery and pendants. It was an exercise to see how thin a saw could cut the Jade. 2mm down to next to nothing in thickness 0.8mm. This material will polish to a stunning black luster. Nephrite Jade is the toughest of all naturally occurring materials. Nephrite Jade has been used from ancient times as jewellery, tools and weapons. This particular Slab is Top grade and the blackest of black jade – basically the best you can get. I believe it was mined in the 1970’s from Cowell.

BLACK JADE NEPHRITE 01
Stunning Black Jade Nephrite 01 ready for slabbing or carving. This is genuine Black Nephrite Jade from Cowell. The grade is A grade and is very hard to come by, the grade comes from being a solid dark black with tight grain and no or minimal inclusions of material like white Tremolite specs. Colour is black, with a thin rind fading to green grey. This variant of jade is popular and is used, in particular, for carving into super-lustrous pendants and jewellery.
One of the toughest rocks on the planet. The Black colour is from an inclusion of Iron of up to 8%. The stone has two cut faces which makes it easy to hold in a vice for diamond saw cutting. The slight translucency that I can see is with a strong Jade torch. BLACK JADE NEPHRITE 01. This stuff is best polished with aluminium oxide then diamond to get the mirror finish. This particular piece will be bought for cutting into jewellery, as a mineral specimen or as an appreciating asset. This grade of Jade only goes up in price as time goes by.
